WELCOME TO TASTE FOR ADVENTURE!
Taste for Adventure Centre (TFAC) is a registered Charity (no: 1027330) founded in 1991 by J H "Brummie" Stokes, MBE, BEM, ex-SAS and third briton to attain the summit of Everest. After 30 years of 'living on the edge' "Brummie" wanted to invest in the future by empowering less privileged young people, helping them to fulfil their potential through the medium of outdoor challenge.Taste for Adventure's target groups are the less able, the impoverished, the abused and the elderly. From its small beginnings in "Brummies" back garden, Taste For Adventure has grown and expanded and now has its residential centre with 5 acres of land at Credenhill, Near Hereford. The purchase was facilited largely through Lottery funding, and grants from other funding organisations, as well as TFAC's own fund-raising and revenue earning courses.
How we achieve our aims and objectives
Using the challenge of adventure in the outdoors, i.e. High Ropes, climbing, canoeing, kayaking, abseiling, mountaineering, survival, expeditions, TFAC has empowered, motivated and enthused its target groups, teaching them self-reliance, team trust, team dependence and basic skills.
Approximately 30,000 people have benfitted from the services provided by TFAC since its inception. Outcomes are greater self-confidence, higher motivation and self-esteem, increased job securing ability, augmented progression to Further Education and an ability to see that there are those out there willing to assist them.
The fundamental aim of TFAC is to enhance the lives of the disadvantaged by introducing the participants to a 'level playing field' where people can merit throught their own efforts, not by their colour, creed, or social advantage. People are encouraged to particpate as a team, seeing the benfits of coming together, watching the progress of keeping together, and ultimately seeing the success of working together.
