“Better to light a few candles than complain about the dark”

OVER 60'S

One of our on-going community projects is enlivening the lives of the Over 60's in the two villages closest to us, Credenhill and Burghill. Since 1999, both groups have enjoyed regular hot lunches here at the Centre throughout the winter months, with all that that entails. We have also been able to take them out to a local pub for Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings with the help of sponsorship from local Hereford businesses.

During the summer months we organise 'Activity Coffee Mornings'; both groups have enjoyed various activities from flower arranging to abseiling; the latter being a fund-raising day for which they raised funds for one of our other causes. These days have grown in notoriety to the extent that, on a regular basis, we have between 20 to 25 people from Credenhill and Burghill.

As our involvement grew even more successful, we expanded our association with them by taking them on various coach trips: Birdland in the Cotswolds, Jack & the Beanstalk in Birmingham, Blenheim Palace, The Eden Project and just before Christmas 2003 to London for the weekend Christmas shopping.

Last year we celebrated various days here at the centre with them, July 4th celebrations, Harvest festival, beautiful Christmas flower demonstration by Jan the Flower and a lovely Christmas lunch for all at Len Gee’s restaurant.

Our next event is an Over 60' Garden Party to be held at the Centre on Friday 25th July. Visiting guest will be "The Righ Worshipful the Mayor of Hereford, Councillor Kevin Wargen" and "The Mayoress of Hereford, Mrs. Lynne Wargen".
